  1. NATIONAL MISSION FOR OILSEEDS AND OIL PALM (NMOOP) MINI MISSION-II (OIL PALM) Ist STANDING COMMITTEE MEETING KARNATAKA ANNUAL ACTION PLAN FOR 2016-17 DATE: 4.08.2016

INTRODUCTION • Karnataka State has a potential of 2.60 lakh ha. for oil palm cultivation • Currently, in the State about 8600 farmers are cultivating oil palm in an area of 10400 ha. out of which 4300 ha. is under bearing, producing about 15000 M.Ts of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFBs) annually. • The average Oil Extraction rate (OER) is 17.22%. • The annual Crude Palm Oil (CPO) Production is about 2600 M.Ts worth about Rs.9.80 crores. • In Karnataka, oil palm is being cultivated in major districts viz, Mysore, Kodagu, Shimoga, Davangere, Haveri, Bellary, Belgaum and Bagalkot. • There are 4 oil palm processors in the State operating in specific districts. • The price of the fruits are decided every month based on the scientific formula recommended by CACP.

  3. The payment is made to the farmers by the processors through ECS. • There are 3 processing units in the State, whose total capacity is about 11 M.Ts per hour. • Currently, oil palm is not economical to the farmers due to fall in prices due to lowered import duty. • The State Government in the interest of the farmers has announced assured price since 2008. • Recently, the State Government has also announced assured price for 3 yrs starting from 2015-16 to 2017-18. • The assured price for the year 2015-16 has been declared at Rs.9500/- per M.T.

  4. A Committee constituted under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary to Govt., Horticulture will decide the assured price for the year 2016-17 and 2017-18.

ACTION PLAN UNDER NMOOP – MINI MISSION –II (OIL PALM) FOR 2016-17 • The GOI has approved AAP for the year 2016-17 for an amount of Rs.732.68 lakhs. • There is an unspent balance of Rs.23.817 lakhs of GOI share as on 1.04.2016. • The Annual Action Plan for 2016-17 has been prepared including the unspent balance. Rs. in lakhs
