The Germantown Craft fair

1. The Germantown Craft fair Date: Oct 24th, 2010 Time: 10 – 4 PM Place: Germantown Jewish Center, on Lincoln drive Event: The third annual Germantown Crafts Fair features 41 vendors displaying their wares. Tables of ceramics, clothing and home accessories will be offered for sale. In addition, a restaurant gift certificate selection, raffle and white elephant sale will also take place Music: This is attributed to Billy Murray, a popular singer when this was recorded in 1904

2. Events At 10 AM The Craft Show is being set up as indicated below The usual Sunday morning Israeli dancing session is in operation

3. Israeli Dancers and the Fair Becky Grace John Della Elaine Debbie

4. Becky and her firm, Shani Becky P is known to many of the Israeli dancers from her visits to this area for the Hora Aviv camp. For many years she ran a session in Pittsburgh but recently she relocated to this area to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Becky runs a company, Shani, that features her designed clothes. Her hats, in person or in picture, are very fascinating and we include a picture of them displayed at the top as they were on display at the craft show.

5. Grace adds ‘grace’ to the Show You saw her above dancing and her name is very apt. Some of you may know her from her duties at CCP where she is a professor of English. Here we see her making a purchase of a restaurant gift certificate. Wherever she is, Grace adds ‘grace’ to her surroundings.

6. Another teacher, Ellen Ellen, another long time Israeli dancer, teaches at your instructor’s alma mater, Francis Scott Key School, in South Philadelphia. At one time, she has been a part time instructor at this college. Ellen began Israeli dancing when this type of dancing was a regular event occurring within a location at the University Of Penna in the ‘70s

7. Della Della does a lot of volunteer work and was a volunteer for this year’s Art fair. Here we see her manning the raffle table which raised funds for the fair’s organizers. Who knows about dancers in general, but Israeli dancers tend to be involved with many different activities in their lives including voluntary acts. Perhaps because this type of dancing promotes awareness and memory, these people, netting your instructor of course, are very active in their community.

8. Deborah, the Artist We are applying some calligraphic principles in these slides. And, no wonder. The master of calligraphy in the Philadelphia area is to our right. Deborah is a teacher of this art form at the Main Line school night sessions besides being an artist known around the country. On the disk coordinator web site, besides the obvious joke art, the logos are by her and in person her art work is stunning. Deborah is partial to variations of purple and sweaters of that color are a natural attraction to her.

9. John and Elaine John, a practicing Psychiatrist and Elaine, a retired psychiatric nurse, are a married couple that enjoy a lot of different activities including dancing. John, like your instructor, attends many dance sessions through the week, but unlike your instructor, he can provide counseling while the dancing is occurring as he has done on many occasions for your instructor. It’s always nice to see them at a dance session and it was a double treat to see them in the morning at the Israeli dance session and in the afternoon at the fair.

10. And, so we end this powerpoint presentation of the Germantown Craft show. On a web site, this is designated as “Meet Me At The Fair” emphasizing the art in this, but it was to some degree an Art and Craft fair. These last pictures show a group photo of some of the Israeli dance participants at both events: the morning dance and the afternoon craft show. Your instructor was not done: That afternoon was a dance demo at a retirement home and than that evening was the usual Sunday night dance session. Needless to say he was tired by the end of the day
