Causes of Cerebral Palsy The exact cause is unknown but it is believed that C.P occurs during pregnancy when the brain gets damaged or is underdeveloped.
Who does C.P affect? • Two out of 1,000 child will develop C.P • 40% born with C.P will have a severe case. • 10,000 babies and infants are diagnosed with the condition each year. • Cerebral Palsy is the most common motor disorder in infants.
Where/How C.P affect the CNS/PNS • This disorder affects the Cerebrum. which controls voluntary movement such as thinking and emotions. the cerebral motor cortex (at the back of the frontal lobe) is usually damaged also. • Cerebral Palsy may occur due to the damage of white matter (brain tissue).

Prognosis Of Cerebral Palsy • Infants with a mild case of Cerebral Palsy is said to live a normal life span. • Quality and lifespan can be improved if: mobility improves improve speech and communication improving independence
Treatment for Cerebral Palsy • There is no actual cure. • Physical therapy- improve body strength • Injectible Antispasmodics- helps to relax tight muscles • Orthopedic Surgery- improve joints (in severe cases) • Pain Management
Celebrity with Cerebral Palsy Abbey Nicole Curran (1987) She was present in the Miss USA 2008 pageant in Las Vegas (2008). Abbey was born with Cerebral Palsy. She has made a number of appearances on shows such as Inside Edition, Access Hollywood, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, CNN Headline News, etc. She now has her own event called"The Miss You Can Do It Pageant" for young girls and women with special needs and challenges. She wishes to teach young ladies that they too can compete in a pageant even with a disability.
Organizations Dr. Janice Brunstrom works with Kenner Heinisch at the Pediatric Neurology Cerebral Palsy Center. Founded by Brunstrom in 1998, the center now sees 2,000 patients.
