Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is typically stronger, straighter, and more uniform than traditional mill lumber Sheets are aligned with the grain parallel to the length of the member, and the end joint between the sheets is either staggered or overlapped Visual grading may be used to test for uniformity, although ultrasonic testing is preferred as it detects flaw such as knots and splits. Much less likely than conventional lumber to warp, twist, bow, or shrink due to its composite nature. Laminated veneer lumber
