SCIENCE is… • The study of the world around us – in a logical manner • Something people do – it is a process that you have used all of your life (most likely without knowing it) • All around us – we come in contact with SCIENCE every waking second • Not separate from your other classes – Math, Language Arts, History, other Languages, Music, Gym, Art, Family Consumer Science, Tech Ed, or Business Ed
What SCIENCE is NOT… • Just a class in school • Something you study • A subject you hate • A person, place, or thing
You cannot get away from SCIENCE…it is all around you! SO GET OVER IT!!
There are 4 Major Branches of Science Environmental or Earth Science Physics Biology or Life Science Chemistry 9th and 12th grades 11th grade Our Focus 10th grade
Our Focus this Year: • Properties of Matter – How do changes in chemical or physical properties affect matter? • Diversity of Life– What is the difference between living and non-living? • Our Genes Our Selves– How are traits passed from generation to generation? • Delaware Watersheds– How does water impact physical and biological environments?
Our Focus this Year: • Transformation of Energy – How energy flows through different systems • Weather and Climate – How weather is created and how it is different from climate • Astronomy – How the Sun, Moon and Earth affect each other • Ecosystems – How do living and non-living things affect each other
