College and Career Readiness for Students Using Alternate Assessments The Kentucky Department of Education and the Human Development Institute University of Kentucky Model Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students States defining what CCR means for general population of high school students through adoption of CCSS National focus on CCR • Evidence based practices framework: • Person Centered Transition Planning • Paid Work Experience While in High School • Participation in Extra-Curricular Activities Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Elementary and Secondary Educational Blueprint for Reform Tools/practices currently in use: • Transition Attainment Record (TAR) a). Alignment to College Readiness- Grade 8 b). Alignment to College/Career Readiness- Grade 11 • Kentucky Occupational Skill Standards (KOSSA) Kentucky Senate Bill 1 Alternative High School Diploma Abstract The College and Career Ready Initiative of the Kentucky State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) will develop a College and Career Readiness accountability model for students with low incidence (LI) disabilities through collaboration the State Education Agency, Local Education Agencies, and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) and, subsequently, develop, pilot, and implement a CCR curriculum for students with LI, based upon the accountability model. Steps Taken So Far: • Reviewed Kentucky Occupational Skill Standards (KOSSA) and pulled those skill standards salient for population of youth participating in Alternate Assessment (inter-rater reliability) • Cross-walked identified, salient KOSSA with US Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy’s Skills to Pay the Bills research and curriculum (2012) • Developed Employability and Foundational Academic Standards Alternate Assessment/Employability Skills Attainment Record (ESAR) based upon the above cross-walk • Developed Kentucky Work Based Learning Certificate (KWBLC) Model Kentucky’s College and Career Readiness Accountability Model for ALL Students How College and Career Ready are Kentucky Students using Alternate Assessment ?
