  4. Government Agencies Provide Access to Census Shapefiles Open access data is available from U.S. via the Census and internationally from agencies such as World Bank. Geographic areas vary by country. Standard Hierarchy of Census Geographic Entries

  5. Underlying Data Translated to Maps Data mapped to polygons or points such as cities

  6. Free interactive mapping such as American FactFinder Mapping and download shapefiles for ArcGIS http://factfinder2.census.gov/

  7. Subscription interactive mapping such as PolicyMap

  9. Enter the GIS Mapping Contest! Students are invited to present their GIS Mapping work as part of a campus-wide celebration of geospatial research at Boston College.  Look for Information later in the Fall!
