Qualities in a Receiver • Mental attitude and work ethic • Ability to catch, run routes, and block • High fitness level • Knowledge of the offense(Formations and QB reads) • Ability to score every time he touches the ball • Sense of pride, confidence, and competitiveness • Must have no fear
Stance • Be comfortable from head to toe • Have inside foot up / knee bend • Have weight evenly distributed on feet • Eyes looking at the ball
Releases Free Release • Roll out of stance • No head bob • Eyes up • No false step • Arm pump Swim • Lean and jab step • Grab and punch • Leg to hip • Run!!
Blocking Types of Drills • Throttle drill • Pad Punch • Mirror drill (fists to chest) • Live blocking drills
Footwork • Bags or Ropes (use a ball) • Cone Drills • Toe Drag • Routes on air
Ball Drills • Clock Drill • Easy Goes • Run through the catch: Straight and Angle • Ball Call (running) • Tommy Gun • Catch Tuck and turn • Slant and Blast • Jump Ball • Tennis Balls
Key Points to Making the Catch • Watch the ball ALL the way into the tuck • Catch the ball in your hands! • Only jump when Necessary. • SPRINT all routes • Balance in your cuts • Run after the catch by splitting defenders
