  6. Measurements with hammer-probe on 9 stable snow-profile places, once in 2 weeks

  7. Hand-probes and tests of snow stability on steep slopes (Norwegian method or slide block test) are done by avalanche specialists of MRS

  8. The information about avalanche danger is published daily on the web-sites www.laviny.sk, www.hzs.sk, wap.hzs.sk, on teletext STV1 -pg.176 and recorded on Tel.Nr.: ++421-44-5591695

  9. On 8th February 1924, mountains Veľká Fatra, east slope of Krížna (1574 m.n.m.), settlement Rybôbig avalanche destroyed 5 houses and killed 18 inhabitants

  10. Number of avalanche victims in Slovakia, during last 40 yearstotal 133 persons, average is 3,3 p./ year

  11. West Tatra - Spálená, 31.12.2005, spontaneous avalanche destroyed the camp of 8 mountaineers, 7 of them died

  13. We have registered a number of atypical avalanches falling from deciduous forests in last years, they endangered public communications

  14. In Slovakia, 5 mountain settlements and 5 ski-resorts are directly endangered

Responsibilities of Moutain Rescue Service in the future • Building-up the network of MRS automatic stations • Harmonization of avalanche bulletins in accordance with international agreements and recommendations • Issue a winter tourist maps with avalanche slopes in scale 1:25 000 • Processing the avalanche cadastre in GIS • Intensive co-operation with EAWS working group and Sudeto-Carpathian avalanche services, engagement of avalanche specialists form Bulgaria and Ukraine
