Introduction This subcommittee coordinates geodetic data-related activities among 23 Federal and non-Federal agencies and will report its activities to FGDC. Membership: http://www.fgdc.gov/participation/working-groups-subcommittees/fgcs/directory
Recent Meetings • The Geodetic Control subcommittee met on 24 July 2012 • The topics discussed at this meeting include: • Update on progress towards new datums • Vertical Reference Systems Work Group activities • Tasking of renewing the subcommittee charter • Subcommittee input to the GAO study • Introduction to the draft NGS 10 Year Plan • Some of the outcomes arising from this meeting include: • FGCS charter will be reviewed and updated (done!) • Real Time Networks will be addressed after the NGS RTN Symposium which is being rescheduled for Spring 2013.
Recent Developments/Projects • Edited subcommittee charter to bring up-to-date (last revised in 2002) • Planning for talks about the new datums at the 2013 Esri Federal GIS Conference • Geopotential Datum • GRAV-D update • Planning for a 2013 Geoid Slope Validation Survey in Iowa
Next Meeting • 31 January 2013 in Silver Spring, MD and via phone and Web • Some of the topics to be discussed at the next meeting include: • Update on the datums of the future and continued discussion on how to prepare for those datums • Update on activities of the Vertical Reference Systems Work Group • Other topics to be determined
Next Steps • In the coming months, the FGCS plans to: • Continue to prepare for the new geometric and geopotential datums. • Identify common objectives and find opportunities for cooperative projects and tasks related to standardization and updates to vertical datums.
