E N D
Initial Choice • The initial choice is to decide whether your student wants to do Transition Year or continue on to standard Leaving Certificate. • The choice to do Transition Year will allow the student a year to mature, do valuable work experience and explore other options outside the curriculum. • Students who do T.Y. are statistically proven to do better than repeat students so the year is more beneficial at this stage. • Other students may prefer to continue to L.C.
Subject Choice • If your student chooses to go on to standard Leaving Certificate, they will need to make a decision on which subjects to study. • This decision is important as it can affect which courses they may decide to do at third level. This is the first factor in choosing a subject. • Subjects should also be chosen based upon a students interests i.e. whether they like the subject and their aptitude for it i.e. whether or not they are good at it.
Aptitude for Subjects (DATS) • The students have recently completed the DATS aptitude tests which show aptitude on a percentile scale. • It measures areas such as language ability which would be important for subjects such as English and History. • It also measures areas such as abstract relations which would be important for Physics, D.C.G etc.
Dats Feedback • Each student receives a personal profile sheet and all results are confidential . • The students and parents can receive this feedback and information at the parent-teacher meeting. • It can be very useful in both subject and career choice.
