Nazi Medical Experiments • Three categories • 1. Experiments aimed at facilitating the survival of military personnel. • 2. Developing and testing pharmaceuticals and treatment methods for injuries and sickness’s which German personnel often occurred. • 3. Sought to advance the racial and ideological tenets of Nazi worldview. • Major concentration camps involved: Sachsenhausen, Dachau, Natzwieler, Buchenwald, Auschwitz, Neuengamme and Ravensbrueck • Josef Mengele was an infamous physician who worked at Auschwitz. • He mainly conducted experiments on twins and gypsies. Experiments aimed at facilitating the survival of military personnel • Physicians from German air force and the Experimental Institution for Aviation • would conduct the experiments. • Make high-altitude experiments in low-pressure chambers. • They also tested freezing experiments. • After they froze someone they would try to cure the hypothermia. Developing and Testing Pharmacueticals • Sachesenhausen, Dachau, Natzweiler, Buchenwald, Neuengamme: scientist tested immunization compounds • Malaria, Typhus, Tuberculoses, Typhoid fever, Yellow fever and infectious hepatitis. • Ravensbrueck was site of bone-grafting and experiments to test new drugs. • Natzweiler and Sachesenhausen: phosgene and Mustard gas

Conclusion • The Nazi’s experimented on the Jews and other races because they thought that they were inferior so it didn’t matter if they tested on them. They also did this because they wanted to find ways to improve their chances in winning the war.
