Slander • Spoken untruths that are harmful to someone’s reputation
Treason • The Constitution of the United States, (Article III) defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort • This offence is punished with death • By the same article of the Constitution, no person shall be convicted of treason, unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court
Libel • Written untruths that are harmful to someone’s reputation
Symbolic Speech • A form of speech that expresses an idea or emotion without use of words, such as burning one’s draft card, bra, or flag, or picketing • Such activities are protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution
Eminent Domain • The right of the government to take private property for public use
Search Warrant • A court order allowing law enforcement officers to search a suspect’s home or business and take specific items as evidence
Judicial Review • The power of the Supreme Court to say whether any federal, state, or local law or government action goes against the Constitution (unconstitutional)
Poll Tax • A sum of money required of voters before they are permitted to cast a ballot
Espionage • the practice of spying or using spies to obtain information about the plans and activities especially of a foreign government or a competing company
Pardon • Presidential power to allow a convicted criminal to go free
