Must pass 5 new subjects the preceding semester and be enrolled in 5 new subjects during the semesters of participation. • Must have a 2.0 GPA and maintain that minimum GPA during each quarter of participation. Failure to maintain that GPA will result in probation. • Weekly grade checks could result in missed games/activities to concentrate on academics. Varsity Squad • Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors; 14-18 girls (varies) • Varsity Boys Soccer, Football, Varsity Boys & Girls Basketball • Home & Away Junior Varsity Squad • Sophomores and Juniors; 14-18 girls (varies) • JV Soccer, JV Football, JV Boys & Girls Basketball, Sophomore Boys Basketball. Home games only Freshman Squad • Freshmen only; 12-16 girls (varies) • C/D Team Soccer, Freshman Football, Freshman Boys & Girls Basketball. Home games only BVW Cheer Squads

  5. There are several forms that are required for participation in cheerleading. These forms are available on the BVW athletics webpage or can be picked up in the office. • Physical Emergency Contact • Parent Consent Transportation • Concussion Drug/Alcohol Contract • A new physical is required each year and must be dated no earlier than MAY 1st. • The completed packet must be turned in to the West Athletics office between May 1- June 10, before leaving for cheer camp. • Questions?   6. Each squad will time two swim meets • Compete in at least one cheerleading festival • Sign painting one afternoon / week (Varsity) • Community Service • Team Building Events All BVW Cheer Squads

  7. Cheer class is held during the 1st semester only, 1st block • Students receive a “P” – elective credit only – for class. This grade does not impact GPA or class rank. • Cheer class takes the place of most outside practices. There will be additional practices called as needed for upcoming events, such as competition. • Cheer class is led by coach and captains. It is a structured practice with warm ups and stretches, followed by work on cheers, stunting, and routines. Cheer Class

Car Wash at Price Chopper on 151st – date TBA, usually late May • Each squad will have one practice in May before school out • Summer practices will be held during the months of June and August – dates and times TBA. • MANDATORY Cheer Camp June 16th – 19th UCA Resort Camp at Tan Tar A, Lake of the Ozarks Summer Commitments

  9. Car Wash - helps with the cost of camp, including transportation. Each girl will be expected to sell 10 tickets to the car wash for $5 each. Car wash will be advertised as a “Free Car Wash – Donations Accepted” on the street signs. • Little Girls Clinic - BVW hosts a Little Girls Clinic in the fall. Girls learn cheers, chants, cheerleading basics and a dance routine. Girls perform at a Varsity football game with the cheerleaders! This raises money for operating costs including festival fees, traveling expenses, and end of the year banquet costs. • Pancake Breakfast– Cheerleaders sell tickets ahead of time to a pancake breakfast. The cheerleaders will be hosts and servers to families, friends and the community. • Additional Fundraisers - such as Dine In events at area restaurants and selling beads at home football games, will be determined by coach and booster club.   14. Each squad will select a community service project or event to work as a squad • Hoops for Hope teams compete to raise money for pediatric cancer • Harvesters • Adopt a family during the holiday season Community Service

Volunteer Parent Organization that supports the program and coordinates activities such as: • Uniform Sizing & Ordering; Camp clothes ordering • Team Dinners • Locker Decorations • Camp Goody Bags • Cheer Fest Breakfast • Senior Recognition • Jag PAC is also able to supply additional funds to our program for replacing and purchasing new items. • ALL parents encouraged to attend meetings Jag PAC Booster Club

March 21st – 24th Blue Valley Academy Gymnasium (Wear white t-shirt and black shorts for tryouts) • Monday, March 21st Mandatory Informational Meeting @ 6:00 to review & sign contract Clinic @ 6:30 – 8:00 • Tuesday, March 22nd Clinic @ 6:00 – 8:00 • Wednesday, March 23rd Clinic @ 6:00 – 8:00 • Thursday, March 24th Try outs begin @ 3:30 Order: Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, Freshmen • Friday, March 25th - 3:00 2016-17 Squad list posted online Try Out Dates

  17. 30% Teacher Recommendations • 7 teacher recommendations from their current school year. • 4 of the recommendations must come from teachers in the core academic areas (science, math, social studies, English language, and/or foreign language). • Returning members will have coaches fill out a recommendation that will be weighted heavier than the other rec forms. • All recs will be destroyed to ensure teacher confidentiality. 70% Judges Scores There will be a panel of 5 - 7 judges selected from the following areas: • Cheer instructors from recognized cheer associations • Cheerleaders from colleges, universities, or professional sports • Cheerleader coaches from other schools • Alumni cheerleaders • Dance instructors Selection Criteria

  18. Thursday, February 25th– Complete teacher recommendation packet and turn in to coaches tonight. • Friday, February 26th– Forms are delivered to all teachers at all schools. Teachers will complete the rec forms and return. • Form was revised by district coaches and administrators to be consistent between all 5 high schools. • Returning cheerleaders must have cheer coaches complete one of their teacher recs. It will count for 30% of the total 30%. Teacher Recommendations
