  1. Year 4 Learning Unit – 4thNovember - 20th December FJS Grand Prix We would be delighted if you would come to the Grand Prix which will be held on Wednesday 11th December at 1.45pm in the hall. Design Technology The challenge is to design and build a buggy to race in the FJS Grand Prix. The buggies will be built on a wooden frame and powered by an electric motor. Then body work will be designed and made. Our Learning Dimensions are; Creativity and independence. We will be thinking about how to plan our buggies independently building up the Knowledge, skills and resources needed to make them. We will also be developing our creativity to make our buggies unique and individual. PE We will be working on the actions seen in the pits when tyres are changed during a motor race. Your child will be able to buy their buggy at the end of the unit. The cost will be worked out depending on which materials have been used but it is likely to be around £2.50 Buggies P4C This half term we will be focussing on the concept of success. Science To power the buggies we will be using what we have learnt about electric circuits, motors, switches and lights. The homework task linked to the Buggy learning unit is for the children to produce a leaflet or booklet about cars. This is open to interpretation for example, cars from films, cars from the future or a history of cars. It can include pictures, diagrams, illustrations etc. There will be up to 5 merits on offer.

  2. Year 4 Learning Unit – 4th November - 20th December PSHE Anti-bullying week is Monday 18th November – Friday 22nd November. Wear something blue on Friday. Maths We will be continuing with the 4 basic rules, learning tables and problem solving. We will also be working on maths topics related to building the buggies such as measuring and angles. Literacy We will be learning how to read, understand and write explanations and instructions linked to our Buggy learning unit. We will also be working on adverts and the use of persuasive language. During the making process we will be keeping a buggy diary. RE Our focus will be angels as symbols. French We will be learning the French words for hobbies and sports. ICT This half term we will be learning how to animate a Power Point by adding effects. Music In the approach to Christmas we will be learning songs to perform in our church carol service.
