Basic Wiring Principles • Red for power, black for ground (never mix up the two) • Use the right size (gauge/diameter) cables, the bigger the size the smaller gauge and the more current that can be drawn through the wire safely.
Robot Battery • 12V Lead-Acid Battery • Connects to power block and main circuit breaker. • Powers all functions of robot.
Compact RIO Controller • Brains of the Robot • Gets power from the power distribution board. • Sends power and signal to the digital sidecar and the Wi-Fi interface. • Connects via Wi-Fi to the drivers station and the robot.
Digital Sidecar Used to connect variety of different signals, mainly to the Victors. Connects to the Compact RIO module, power distribution block, and
Power Distribution Board Various Power outputs (to victors, for example) • Does what its name says • Ensures that not too much current is drawn and everything is connected well. • Connects to practically everything, and all power is drawn from it. Power in
Main Circuit Breaker • Turns robot on and off • To turn it off, press the big red button, to turn it on close the switch. • Connects the battery to the power distribution board. • Normally use the red power cable from the battery.
Linksys Wi-fi Interface • Connects the Compact RIO to the driver’s station/laptop. • Connected to OI and the power distribution board.
Jaguar Speed Controller • Replacement for Victor, larger and has more features • Determines how much power goes to the motors. • Gets power from distribution board, input from the digital sidecar, and outputs to the motors.
Motors • Motors wired to Victor/Jaguar Speed Controller • Makes motors move a certain speed • Motors allow an object to rotate • Motors are wired up by connects both the ground and the power wire from a part of the motor to the speed controller
And now for… THE TEST Winners will get candy (yes, more) and losers will get tossed inside the hungry tiger pit
Connect the robot wiring properly • Use red wire for power, black wire for ground, and white wire as signal & power & ground. • Ask if you run out of wire (it happens in reality too)
