Importance of Communication Communication is an indispensible human activity. Occurs simultaneously with any undertaking. Vital to HR activities like staffing, training and development, motivation and maintenance.
Definition The transfer of information including feelings and ideas from one person to another. • Effective communication should have a sender, message and receiver. • Passive listening is not considered communication
Process of Communication • Developing an idea or perception • Message encoding • Channel transmission • Message decoding • Receiving an idea and developing own perception • Discard information • Follow instruction • Store information for future use • Pass it on to others 6. Providing feedback

FORMS OF COMMUNICATION When is Written communication appropriate? • The sender wants to impart an air of formality and authority • Permanent record is required • Legal reason for putting the message in writing. • Give number of people the same message • Full comprehension of message • To avoid lengthy discussion • Sender is aware that he cannot express himself orally • Need for full publicity of the message • To provider receiver of the copy of message
