Pentecost Sunday The Spirit is for life, not just for Pentecost Sunday Acts 2:1-47
Before • The Holy Spirit existed before Pentecost (Gen. 1:2) • In the OT the Holy Spirit endowed individuals with abilities to perform works for God • They were: • Creative (Ex. 31:3) • Admin and Leadership (Gen. 41:38) • Judges • Prophets
Jesus the High Priest • We may not get this as much as the Hebrews did who converted to Christ • The High Priest was the one who made the connection between the presence of God and the people • Jesus died, the curtain tore in two (Mark 15:38) • The presence of God was released to all who come in repentance to him
What now? “This impressive body of teaching (the New Testament Epistles) implies that believers who had received the Holy Spirit in His fullness still needed this teaching. There was no rule that once they had started well they were certain to continue well… They needed to be continually renewed in the fullness of the Spirit and faithful obedience to the Word. It should also be noted that the introduction to the realm of the supernatural begun by the baptism in the Holy Spirit, with signs following, did not mean that the believer’s whole life thereafter was on such a high spiritual level that he ceased to be as other men.” Donald Gee
Authentic Baptism An authentic baptism (immersion) in the Holy Spirit produces three things: • A difference in your life • Fruit (Galatians 5) • Power – Gifts listed in Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12
The Challenge • In the New Testament when people have committed their lives to Christ and the Apostles visit them, their first question is, “Have your received the Holy Spirit?” • If not they laid their hands on them and prayed for them to receive the Spirit. • So, have you? And if not then can we pray for you?
