Let’s Eat Healthy Week: • President Obama’s initiative to combat obesity • Launch will occur on January 4-8, 2010 • In conjunction with the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute and the U.S. Department of Agriculture
What is obesity? Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater. BMI is calculated from a person's weight and height and provides a reasonable indicator of body fatness and weight categories that may lead to health problems. Causes of obesity: What are some of the challenges? • We are overworked and stressed • We eat fast food and processed foods because it is quicker and easier to eat that way
What can we do?Participate in Let’s Eat Healthy Week : • Develop a new relationship with food • Choose an Accountability Partner • Track your daily eating • Buy a “new” healthier food • Read food labels • Reduce consumption of fast/processed foods
