  1. Pastor / Teacher James H. Rickard Tuesday, August 5, 2008 Grace Fellowship Churchwww.GraceDoctrine.org

  2. Memory Verse Phil 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

  3. The Upper Room DiscourseJohn 13-16

  4. John 13:18 3) God's Omniscience does not hinder or violate human volition.

  5. Human volition is an extension of the angelic conflict and can never be violated by God.

  6. “But it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled.”The emphasis is on the fulfillment of prophecy in regards to all aspects of Christ’s life and death.

  7. God’s election of the believer would not be possible if the prophecies regarding Christ’s work on the Cross were not fulfilled.

  8. Christ’s efficacious work on the Cross is the most important thing of all, beginning with the betrayal by a close friend.

  9. God did not make Judas betray the Lord, but God's omniscience saw his negative volition from eternity past and was able to prophesize his future actions.

  10. God knows what our human volition will do and He has incorporated that into His Plan.

  11. Because of the Omniscience, Veracity and Immutability of God, scripture cannot and does not lie. It is impossible for God’s Word to lie with regard to a principle, a concept or a promise.

  12. "He who eats" - HO TROGO literally meaning to gnaw, munch, or crunch. It’s a derogatory reference to eating as also seen in Mat 24:38-39.

  13. This is in contrast to the only other occurrence of our Lord using this word in John 6:54-58 regarding those who would come to salvation.

  14. Even though Judas partook of the Word he did not learn from it, just as does the unbeliever who hears the Word and does not accept it for what it is, complete spiritual sustenance giving eternal life.

  15. "My bread", is a Genitive of Association = “bread with me” showing the close relationship of Judas and Jesus.

  16. A subtle difference because, “whoever eats My bread has eternal life”, John 6:35-58.

  17. John 6:35,“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life (ARTOS ZOE); he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.””

  18. John 6:47-48,“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life.”

  19. This is the spiritual sustenance of the gospel of Jesus Christ that gives eternal life.

  20. Principle: You will eat bread with many people in life, but many will not eat the bread of life with you.

  21. “Has lifted up his heel against Me”, is the blind arrogance of Judas leading him to reject our Lord’s authority and betray Him.

  22. Omniscience does not violate human volition and the traitor is free to make his own decisions. Human volition is an extension of the angelic conflict and can never be violated by God.

  23. Judas pretended to love the Lord but in ignorance of Bible Doctrine his love was nothing more than pseudo love.

  24. The results of ignorance of Bible Doctrine and arrogance of the soul can and will lead to betrayal.

  25. 1 Cor 11:23, “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread.”
