2. 50 lac illegal female foeticide operations are conducted every year. 1 out of every 6 girls does not live to see her 15th birthday. Death rate among girls below the age of 4 years is higher than that of boys. Even if she escapes infanticide /foeticide, a girl child is less likely to receive immunization, nutrition or medical treatment compared to a male child.

3. Skewed sex ratio as low as 901 females per 1000 males In Punjab. Not only illegally are the girl foetuses aborted, Newborns are dumped in wells, wrapped in wet towels to catch pneumonia, left to starve, dumped in garbage bags, Or even strangled by their own family members. AND this is not restricted to villages alone..prevalent in cities like Delhi Chandigarh, Jaisalmer, etc.

4. The adverse child sex ratio can severely impact the delicate equilibrium of nature and destroy our moral and social fabric. Contrary to what many believe, lesser number of girls in a society will not enhance their status. Instead, this could lead to increased violence against women, rape, abduction, trafficking and onset of practices such as polyandry. In certain parts of the country, women are being 'bought' as brides too.

Print flexes (specified format attached only) and display it at colleges, schools, malls, shops, cinemas, outside bustees, dhabas, hotels railway stations, metro stations, airports and other institutes. You may either display it from a structure if you get permission from the authorities or circlers can take turns to hold it up..even for one hour during rush hour or a busy sunday morning or public holidays like 15th August will be very effective. Hang a marker pen/ink pad from a long string for people to sign. Try and display as many flexes across your city. Try and ensure that people sign it only once, request circlers to sign different flexes at various venues. Lets try and get atleast a Million signatures. Let us atleast make it visible !!

7. No need for fancy standees or fabrications. You can simple ask the printer at the time of printing for eyelets on the flex and tie the flex to the side of standing buses, blackboards, corridors, staircases, place it on a long table at your fundraisers, carry it to your FTE projects to get the outskirts to participate. Ensure your flex reaches me by the 1st week of December. Use surface courier. All the flexes will be joined together to form the ‘PINK SCROLL’ (which is why the correct format is essential) and displayed at the NAGM, Kolkata. Thereafter we will send it to the Health Ministry.

8. Alongside the signature campaign also educate slum mothers and your househelp. Have small lectures on the skewed ratio and the ills of killing the girl child. Felicitate poor mothers with girl children below the age of one year. Give them a small hamper with Cerelac/toiletries for the baby, Women's Horlicks/Calcium tablets/etc. for the mother. You may also sponsor their vaccinations for the girl child for an entire year. Ask major pharma companies to join hands with your circle.
