  2. Stephen Smith The Honourable Stephen Smith became the Federal Minister for Defence after the 2010 Federal election. He has previously been placed in the position of Federal Minister for Trade and during Kevin Rudds time in the position of Prime Minister he had been appointed the position of Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs.

  3. ARMY NAVY AIRFORCE • Baring in mind that Stephen Smith is the Federal Minister for Defence that means he is in charge of anything to do with the Army, Navy and Airforce.

History of the Ministry • In Australia there has been a defence ministry since January 1 1901 until Robert Menzies(prime minister of Australia in world war II) abolished the position on November 13 1939 creating a Minister for the Army, Navy and Airforce and carried on like that until 1973(end of the Vietnam war) when finally Lance Barnard took over from the first Defence Ministers and relieved those who were defence co-ordinators during the past 34yrs of war!!!
