Summer of 1969: President Nixon announces troop withdrawals • Bombings in North Vietnam continued
November of 1969: Americans learn of the My Lai Massacre • American soldiers rounded up and shot between 200 and 500 Vietnamese civilians • Helped fuel the antiwar movement in the US
April 30, 1970: President Nixon announces that the US had invaded Cambodia • Done to cut the supply lines of the Vietcong • Did not ask Congress for permission • Inspired mass protests across the US
May of 1970: riots occur at Kent State University • Protesting students burned down the ROTC building • The National Guard was called in and used live ammunition, wounding nine and killing four
March of 1972, North Vietnam launches its largest attack on the South since Tet
April, 1975: North Vietnamese forces capture Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam
