  2. Government Cereal Box Activity • 1. Introduction to the Government Cereal Box Activity. • 2. Establish Roles – Once your groups have been created, each group member needs to choose (or be assigned) at least one role. The roles are as follows: • Group Leader – Lead your group by making sure everyone is working to achieve the same task/goal; report to Mr. Short or Mr. Kaplan as needed. Answer questions about your groups’ Cereal Box during the Gallery Walk. • Lead Artist – Lead the creation and design of the Government Cereal Box. • Front of Box – Create the front of the Cereal Box with the title and appropriate illustration. • Back of Box – Create the back of the Box, including the members with their responsibilities and duties, and an appropriate illustration. • Left Panel – Create the left panel explaining the election or selection process with an appropriate illustration. • Right Panel – Create the right panel explaining the checks and balances of the branch with appropriate illustration.

Government Cereal Box Activity • Part 1 – Research • Directions – Research and design your assigned Government Cereal Box. • Roles and Responsibilities: • Group Leader– Assist in research; Report to Mr. Short or Mr. Kaplan as needed. • Lead Artist – Design overall layout of your Cereal Box; Assist in research; Help take notes. • All Others– Research your assigned portion of the Cereal Box for your assigned level/branch. Be sure to check your portion of the research (graphic organizer) once you are completed. • Remember, you are responsible for completing your job/tasks AND assisting other members of your group in the completion of their jobs/tasks!!!!!

Government Cereal Box Activity • Part 2 – Cereal Box Project Creation • Directions – Create the Cereal Box for your assigned level/branch of Government. • Roles and Responsibilities: • Group Leader– Assist in creating the Cereal Box; Report to Mr. Short or Mr. Kaplan as needed. Check the information from team members before the Lead Artist gets it. • Lead Artist – Lead the creation of the Cereal Box; Collect materials and move the Cereal Box to designated location at the end of class. • All Others – Finish researching, then have Group Leader check your information before assisting the Lead Artist in placing your work on the Cereal box. • Remember, you are responsible for completing your job/tasks AND assisting other members of your group in the completion of their jobs/tasks!!!!!

Government Cereal Box Activity • Part 3 – Presentations • Directions – During class today, we will be doing a Gallery Walk of the 6 Government Cereal Box Projects that have been created: • Each group will visit the 5 other Government Cereal Boxes and complete their Graphic Organizers (State and Federal Government) from the information they will find. • The Group Leader of each group will remain with their group’s Cereal Box and be prepared to answer any question the students on the Gallery Walk may have about the level/branch of government. • After the Gallery Walk, the students will meet back in their groups. The Group Leader will discuss any questions that were asked about the group’s project and any corrections that need to be made before it is submitted for grading. The group will assist the Group Leader in filling out and checking their Graphic Organizers.
