  7. Building the Prototype • Android vsiPhone • iPhone • SDK is not free • To publish an app it costs money • Android • Eclipse is hard to set up for every developer • Needed to pick a version of Android to develop for

  8. Building the Prototype • Mobile Webpage • No SDK’s to purchase or install • Runs on most smart-phone platforms • Scope of the tools fit our project

  9. Building the Prototype • Team didn’t know how to proceed • Received an Email about new programming club for any majors • First meeting would cover mobile web development tool jQuery mobile.

Building the Prototype • Programming team begins attending hacKSU meetings and become members • A real desire to learn new technology • Meet with students from other majors and colleges at KSU • hacKSU covered over the semester • jQuery Mobile • JSON • Even Google Maps API • (All without them even knowing about our project)

  11. Building the Prototype • Javascript • Processes run by user’s browser instead of on a server • Used to interact with the Google Maps API • jQuery is Javascript based • (so we still programmed a lot of Javascript)

  12. Building the Prototype • jQuery Mobile • Our website ‘wrapper’ and Javascript tool • Detects which mobile browser and tailors page accordingly • Looks nice • We could focus on programming and not design

  20. Starting a Business • We created a 5-year plan to plot out our growth from an idea into a business. • By year 3 we expect to have 25,000+ users. • Other areas for expansion.
