Post Secondary Enrollment Options Continued *Provides high school students the opportunity to enroll in college *Currently over 1,300 high school students a year participate in this program*Over 700 students took college courses at their high school PSEO These are unduplicated headcounts of current students in the PSEO program regardless of high school attending.
Two Programs • Post Secondary Enrollment Option B (PSEO B) • Credit-in-Escrow
PSEO B • Free tuition and books • Counts on high school transcript and college transcript • Must be taken during the academic year
Credit-in-Escrow • Paid for by student and parents • Counts on college transcript / May also be used for high school credit • Classes can be taken during the summer as well as the academic year
Freshman 3.9 GPA for 7 & 8 grade accumulation Complete assessment Sophomore 3.7 GPA for 8 & 9 grade accumulation Complete assessment Criteria for Participation Senior • 3.0 high school GPA • Complete assessment Junior • 3.5 high school GPA • Complete assessment
Freshmen and Sophomores one course per semester must meet prerequisite Juniors and Seniors equivalent of a high school day must meet prerequisite Course Limitations
What To Do and When • Notify middle/high school of intent to participate (in writing) by March 30 (* very important for private & “08” schools) • Discuss college course selections with your high school counselor • Submit completed application to h.s. counselor (sections I & IV) to forward with transcript before June 15 • Take Assessment • COMPASS • ASSET or E-COMPASS (at the high school)
What To Do and When • Meet with LCCC Academic Advisor or Counselor and schedule your classes • Take your schedule to the Bass Library Building and get your college I.D. • Pick out your books at the College Bookstore (3 weeks before class)

PSEO Participation...Benefits • Attend college while still in high school • Count credits for both high school and college • Complete college degree in fewer terms and with greater flexibility • Reduce overall costs of college education
State Law Makes Transfer Easier • ORC 3333.16 – “ensures that students can begin coursework at any state institution of higher learning and transfer coursework and degrees to any other state institution without unnecessary duplication or barriers…” • “…Coursework will transfer and be applied to degrees in the same manner as if the courses were taken at the university”
Ohio Transfer Module • Specific subset of a college’s general education requirements (40 semester hours) • Completion of a transfer module at one state college or university will automatically meet requirements of the transfer module at the receiving state institution
Ohio Transfer Module • English Composition-3 Hours • Social Science-6 Hours • Arts Humanities-6 Hours • Math-3 Hours • Science-6 Hours (including one lab course) • Additional Transfer Module Courses-12 Hours

PSEO Participation...Benefits Course Work Delivery • LCCC campus • High school site • Traditional classroom • Video-conferencing • TV courses/interactive TV courses • Internet courses • LCCC’s Learning Centers (Lorain, Wellington, Brunswick) Format of the course is not noted on transcript
High School Site Courses • LCCC Courses available on site at fourteen local high schools • Student remains in high school environment • Student still earns college credit • Student may access all services LCCC provides for on campus students
LCCC Student Services • Computer labs • Physical education facilities • Career development services • Advising and counseling services • Free tutoring services • Use of the library/Ohio link
PSEO Participation… Cautions • Student is removed from high school environment • HB 282, 3.0 GPA required in subject area
PSEO Participation… Cautions • Grades earned in college coursework may affect high school class rank • College grades are usually computed into GPA (depends on school policy) • Some schools add quality points for LCCC courses like they would for honors courses • Even an A in a college class can sometimes negatively impact student’s class rank
PSEO Participation… Cautions • Students may find it more difficult to partake in high school extra-curricular activities • Students will be exposed to course- work geared toward adult learners • Students may not have the maturity for the college atmosphere
PSEO Participation… Cautions • College transcripts are permanent records • Students retain entering freshman status toward federal and state financial aid--check with receiving institution about their scholarships • School districts will seek financial restitution if student fails or withdraws from a course
PSEO Participation…Cautions • High school graduation may be jeopardized if a student fails or drops a college course that is also being used for high school credit. • Work closely with high school counselor • Give your absolute best effort • Get help/tutoring if necessary
Restricted Courses • ALHN 112, 113 • All Allied Health Clinical Courses • EDCT 111, 171 • ECED (all courses) • EMSB & EMSP (all courses) • PEFT 151 (minimum age 16)
