CH 11: Fraunhofer Diffraction. Diffraction.
E N D
Diffraction Plane light waves incident on the slits in Young’s double slit experiment were converted into spherical waves at the slit. The spherical waves radiated outward from the slit, essentially traveling in a different direction than the incident parallel waves. The changing of the direction of light waves due to an obstacle, that is not reflection or refraction is called Diffraction. Diffraction – Bending of light waves around obstacles. Diffraction depends on the relative size between the wavelength and the dimensions of the obstacle. Apertureis comparable or smaller in size than the wavelength. Aperture is larger than the wavelength.
