ATWS • Network completed Sep 09 • All terrestrial data available 1 minute via GTS • Domestic network upgraded 09 • South Pacific network upgrades 09-12 • South Pacific network to get 2 way IP based communications • All DART Buoys operational
HF Marine Broadcast • Extremely expensive > $3M p/a • Continued operation technically difficult • Limited content • Obligations under review • Potential need for “All Hazards” broadcast network (Similar to Emwin) • Potential for Asia/Pac broadcast network
HF Marine Broadcast • Technical solutions difficult • Satellite solutions over Australia’s marine area limited • Will require much public engagement • Will probably need new technology or platform on L/C band • DVB is suggested but as yet not practical for mass deployment on marine platform • Assessment 2010-12
RANET • Continued financial support for NZMet program • BOM Resources limited but willing to help with as project sponsor. • New Director has confirmed support for engagement with Pacific activities • Significant requests for Public SMS following Samoa/Tonga Tsunami
Regional Satellite Communications update • C band low bit rate possible • Regardless of systems Telemetry will cost between $50-200USD • IP based KU VSAT $30-$500 depending on service • Thuraya has lowest power requirements
Other issues • TDCF Status paper by Weiqing Qu (Bureau) • Bureau mandated to go to IPV6 2010-11 • DRS (Canberra) site to be fully operational 2010-11 • Technical solution for internal web products to be securely accessed via web –March 2010 • ATWS Data • WEB base Observations and reports • Internal AWS network 600 sites to IP and 1 minute reporting 2012-13
