  9. National VOAD Mission: To foster more effective service to people affected by disasters. Membership: 110 Organizations Role: To support the efforts of federal, state, and local agencies. Core Values: • Cooperation • Communication • Coordination • Collaboration

Ohio VOAD Values: • To provide care and compassion for all people. • To provide the basis for a nurturing environment in which disaster response agencies will flourish. • To encourage best practices and mutual accountability in operational synergy. • To accomplish work in a respectful, non-judgmental, and non-discriminatory manner. • To focus on building trust, mutual respect, and equal partnerships of community service providers. • To provide hope, make a difference, and offer opportunities for true collaboration. • To adhere to the National VOAD standards of conduct and service delivery.

Local VOAD Mission: To bring together voluntary agencies, faith-based organizations, private sector partners, and governmental agencies from a smaller geographic area to foster a more effective response to those impacted by a disaster. Role: Coordination, not service delivery Main Activities: • Advocate for Preparedness and Hazard Mitigation • Planning (e.g. developing tool kits and resource manuals) • Training and Exercises • Convening the group following a disaster • Forming the Long Term Recovery Committee

  14. Long Term Recovery Committee Purpose: To advocate, coordinate and prioritize recovery assistance to those with unmet needs following a disaster. Primary Role: • Minimize duplication of services • Assess individual needs via a Case Manager • Link individuals and families with resources/service providers • Recruit and manage volunteers • Organize and distribute donated goods Membership • Type of disaster • Unmet needs of community • Geographic area impacted • Personnel/Resource Availability
