David, one of the central figures in scripture, fell into sin. • He was a man after God’s own heart but he was still just a man. • Confrontation is no longer an acceptable social practice. • Why is that?
Do we fear being corrected? • Do we hate being wrong? • Do we hide behind a false sense of goodness not wanting to be found out?
I. David’s Sin • The open window of temptation must be closed. • The consequences of sin can’t be predicted, but they must be calculated. • When times are good, temptation is greater.
II. Nathan’s Story • To be effective in confrontation, Chuck Swindoll suggests at least four things: absolutetruth, right timing, wise wording and fearless courage. • Self-realization is the best cure for sin. • A defensive response is normal, but not godly. • God does not wantexcuses but genuine repentance. • Remember Adam and Eve.
III. Five True Passion Killers • 1. Misdirected emotions. • 2. Hypocritical motives. • 3. Sinful desires concerning money, power, prestige, possessions, fame, sexual immorality, family. • 4. Pride, ego, arrogance. • 5. Selfishness.
Conclusion Confession, one to another, is good for true passion and brings healing.
