Annual Pupil Profile Annual Pupil Profile will include • comments on progress and achievement in • the curricular areas • skills and capabilities • attitudes, aptitudes and interests • comments on and a score in • Talking and Listening, Reading, Writing, Numeracy and ICT and could provide • average scores for the class, school and Northern Ireland Review of Post Primary Education

Accreditation • Voluntary accreditation model linked to ETI initiative - Together Towards Improvement: A process of Self-Evaluation • Based around existing good practice in • Classroom assessment • Recording • Standard setting including moderation • Reporting • Voluntary scheme incorporating the statutory elements of moderation and reporting Review of Post Primary Education

Quality Assurance • Good training, support and exemplification built up over time • “Formative Moderation” – every three years once accredited • Move to electronic moderation asap for flexibility and quick and effective feedback • Monitor the content and presentation of the reports Review of Post Primary Education

Support • CCEA is developing teaching plans/lesson plans linked to learning outcomes and assessment materials • ICT systems for assessment, recording and reporting • ICT systems for moderation and feedback • All CCEA curriculum and assessment materials and systems will be available through Learning Northern Ireland (LNI) • Access to a range of non-CCEA curriculum and assessment materials in LNI library, adapted to match the revised curriculum Review of Post Primary Education

Role of the Annual Pupil Profile • Replaces current end of key stage assessment • Ongoing process whereby parents receive information each year in the same essential areas and can see progress made • Emphasis on assessment as part of the teaching and learning process and not on transfer • Highlight skills and capabilities, aptitudes, attitudes and interests Review of Post Primary Education

  10. Annual Pupil Profile Annual Pupil Profile puts the emphasis on validity • Based on the continuing work of the pupil • Covers all curricular and skills areas • Produces both numbers and statements • Does not provide a single rank order Review of Post Primary Education

  11. Transfer Test Transfer Test puts the emphasis on objectivity/reliability • Covers only English, Mathematics and Science • Based on 2 hours work • Clerically marked with no discretion allowed to the marker • Provides a “hard” number and a single rank order Review of Post Primary Education

Implementation • Introduce the Annual Pupil Profile in 2006/07 in Years 3 – 5 • Years 6 and 7 continue as before • 2008/09 piloting and evaluation of first “live” Year 7 Profiles • 2009/10 Annual Pupil Profile operational in Year 7 • Introduction is in synch with the new curriculum and assessment arrangements Review of Post Primary Education

  14. Early Implementation • Clash with the phased implementation of new curriculum proposals and assessment arrangements (2005 – 2010) • The ICT support will not be in place • Teachers will not be well prepared • May not be able to guarantee consistency and standards across all schools • Negative effect on the overall implementation plan could be very significant Review of Post Primary Education
