  3. FY 2014 Federal Landscape • Sequestration • Budget Control Act • $1.2 trillion in cuts over 10 years (2012-2021) • Non-Defense Cuts: • 8.4% cut across the board • $54.7 billion in 2013 • Defense Cuts: • 7.5 % cut • $54.7 billion in 2013 • Includes Defense-related research funding

FY 2014 Federal Landscape • Immediate Impacts of Sequestration • Pell Grants are EXEMPT • Cuts to research programs (NSF, NOAA, etc.) • Examples of Impact on AK (Harkin Report - LHHS) • $933,150 cut to Improving Teacher Quality State Grants • 984 fewer teachers in AK, serving 16,029 students, receive professional development • $33,224 cut to Federal Work Study Program • 15 fewer students in AK will receive financial assistance
