Saint-Petersburg is a multicultural and multiconfessional city • At present in Saint-Petersburg there are: • representatives of more than 130 nationalities • 45 ethnic groups with the participation rate of 500 persons each • about 300 national public associations
«The Program of harmonization of interethnic and cultural relations, prophylaxis of xenophobia display, strengthening tolerance in Saint-Petersburg for 2006 - 2010 years» The main aim - to strengthen the tolerant environment in Saint-Petersburg via the values of multicultural Russian society, common Russian civic identity and Saint-Petersburg cultural self-consciousness, the principals of maintenance of the human rights and freedoms.
The city experiment on the topic «The problem of mastering of Russian language and adaptation of the migrant children at school» • the educational module program of in-service training for the teachers of Russian language and literature, • the program of in-service training for homeroom teachers of general schools, • the program of extended education for primary school («Russian language through games and pictures», «A storeroom of patterns»), • vocabularies in Armenian, Georgian,Azerbaijani languages, • the system of corrective exercises on Russian language

International Projects • In November 2007 within the festival of the of tolerance and the Days of memorizing of the victims of Holocaust in the House of Jewish culture a seminar «The lessons of Holocaust - the way to tolerance»took place. • During January-February 2008 together with the Swedish consulateand Israelite cultural center in the Museum of the political history a seminar «One soldier does make a battle» , devoted to life and activity of Vallenberg. • In December2007together with the Austrian agency “KulturKontact Austria” a seminar on multicultural communication took place. • Collaboration between 27 schools of Saint-Petersburg and 30 schools of Helsinki in the field of ecological and artistic education. • Since 2007 within the agreement between the Committee of Education of Saint-Petersburg and the Department of Education of Helsinki a project of the schools of special education has been realized

«Ethnic calendar of Saint-Petersburg» • 44 educational institutions from 14 regions of Saint-Petersburg took part in the experiment • 148 open activities were held from January till May 2008 (instead of 90 which had been planned) • in 75% of schools all teachers of primary education and pupils worked with Ethnic calendar 13
