This past October he was sentenced to life in prison. • This report in 1984 reviews recent revelations by former members of the security forces about involvement in human rights violations, particularly “disappearances.” It looks at efforts to investigate past violations. • This shows how people’s rights were violated during the dirty war such as people disappearing in Argentina. • The number of people who were killed or "disappeared" ranged from 9,000 to 30,000. Locations of 90 out of about 340 detention centers during the dirty war. Timeline leading to “Dirty War” 1973- Peronism was brought back to Argentina. Timeline after human rights violation April 28th, 1983 – The military declared all of the missing people dead, but said that they saved the nation. October 9th, 2007- Christian von Wernich was found guilty of 7 homicides, 42 kidnappings, and 32 instances of torture during the Dirty War. He was sentenced to life in prison. 2010- Reynaldo Bignone was the last dictator of the Dirty War. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for crimes against humanity. • Acts of prevention • The laws of Obediencia debida (Due obedience) and Punto Final (Stop) were laws that were against human rights. They were annulled on June 14th, 2005. • Many of the people who committed the inhumane crimes were put in jail. • Many laws were passed so the Dirty War would not occur again. • Different groups of organization were made such as Derechos: International but mostly in Argentina, COA, and Serpaj Salta “Do those people care what's going on in De Pere? “ -Tom Barrett
