HistoryMF Rental Rehabilitation Strategy • AHAC adopted the MF Rental Rehabilitation Strategy to address the deterioration and decay of the City’s affordable multifamily stock • 1999 Universal Application Cycle to promote the rehabilitation of mf units • Support housing projects that intend to apply for local and state housing programs

GMP Policies • To encourage the preservation of decent, safe and sanitary housing for the present and future residents of the City of Orlando • extend the life of the existing housing stock • stabilize neighborhoods, and • promote neighborhood confidence How? • monitor the conditions of the City’s housing stock • reduce the amount of substandard housing • discourage boarded-up buildings, and • preserve available housing stock
More GMP Policies • “Consider the potential impact of proposed projects on achieving reductions in the concentration of affordable multifamily housing” • “Support public-private partnerships that provide affordable housing” • “Priority shall be given to long-term attainable housing developments located within proximity of major employment centers or near public or mass transit and which demonstrate architectural excellence and which contribute to environmental sustainability” • “Participate in affordable housing demonstration projects where the City will negotiate development standards and code requirements with developers interested in constructing a variety of affordable housing units”
Land Development Code • Provides cost savings and flexible design options without compromising the quality of the development • (a) allow the combination of architectural styles, building forms, and building requirements; • (b) promote innovative residential design and allow more efficient use of land thereby making available needed housing at a more affordable cost; • (c) encourage the utilization of the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) standards to design for the safety of the neighborhood as a whole;
Land Development Code • (d) incorporate the positive design features of the Traditional City including orientation towards the street and pedestrian access; • (e) provide for future additions to the home by incorporating a floor plan and other features such as a roofed porch that facilitate expansion of the existing unit; and • (f) encourage traffic calming devices where appropriate.
