  2. Potential Energy • Energy stored within a physical system as a result of the position or configuration of the different parts of that system

  3. Kinetic Energy • The energy of a body or a system with respect to the motion of the body or of the particles in the system

  4. Joule • the SI unit of work or energy, equal to the work done by a force of one newton when its point of application moves through a distance of one meter in the direction of the force: equivalent to 10 ergs and one watt-second.

  5. Wattage • The amount of power required to operate an electrical appliance or device

  6. Renewable Energy • any naturally occurring, theoretically inexhaustible source of energy, as biomass, solar, wind, tidal, wave, and hydroelectric power, that is not derived from fossil or nuclear fuel.

  7. Nonrenewable Energy • Energy that comes from the ground and is not replaced in a relatively short amount of time

  8. Weather-stripping • a narrow strip of material to cover the joint of a door or window to exclude the cold 

  9. Insulation • the use of material to resist the flow of electric current and magnetism

  10. Rfactor • a numeric measure of a material's ability to insulate against heat or cold. Also used for windows.

  11. Greenhouse Emissoins • are gases in an atmosphere that absorb and emit infrared range

  12. Thermostat • a device for regulating the temperature of a system so that the system's temperature is maintained near a desired set point temperature.

  13. Ambient Tempature • non-specific phrase used to describe the outside temperature.

  14. Efficiency • desired energy output per energy input

  15. Carbon footprint • the total set of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions caused by an organization, event or product".
