  6. What is CLR? The California Law Review is the preeminent legal publication at the UC Berkeley School of Law. Founded in 1912, CLR publishes six times per year on a variety of engaging topics in legal scholarship. The law review is edited and published entirely by students at Berkeley Law.

  10. 2L Membership requirements: • Mandatory Orientation: August (TBA) • Editing Packets (Primary Edit or Final Read) and Source Collections • Minimum mandatory office hours • Write a publishable scholarly piece for consideration in CLR • Summer Membership requirements *Membership requirements are under review and subject to change

  13. Calm Down • Everything we are about to go through will be: • Laid out in detail at the April 4 and April 5 meetings • Available online to view at your leisure • Covered in-depth in the packet itself • This is just an overview

  14. How do I Participate? • Registration April 18-22 • Spring Final Exam # • Summer contact info sheet • $35 Payment Made out to UC Regents • Honor Code • Your work only • No outside research; sources limited to packet • Grading and results are completely anonymous and confidential

Casenote – 50% • Purpose: Provide commentary and legal analysis on a judicial opinion testing your writing abilities • Everything you need will be in your packet (case and research materials) • Sample casenotes and personal statements will be on reserve in the library • 18 page-limit • Font (including footnotes) • 12 point • Courier New • 1-inch margins • Evaluated by six CLR Members

  16. Editing Packet – 30% • Evaluates • Basic grammar and editing skills • Bluebooking of footnotes • Cite-checking and source support • Must use 19th edition Bluebook • Graded by Development Editors

  17. Personal Statement – 20% • Opportunity to describe how you can uniquely contribute to the work and community of CLR • 2 page limit • Read by Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, Diversity Editor, and five other elected CLR members Who am I, and What can I bring to CLR?

  18. Write-On is Paperless • Packets will go live on bSpace at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13 • You may print them • Casenote and Personal Statement must be uploaded to bSpace and editing packet must be turned in at the CLR office or FedEx-ed by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24

Hardship Exception • CLR has arranged for a limited number of scholarships for the Write-On cost • CLR has also arranged for a limited number of scholarships for the cost of printing the packet • If the write-on will present an actual financial hardship please contact clrwriteon@gmail.com. • All correspondence will be confidential • No individual should feel unable to participate as a result of financial hardship
