Today’s Talk • Define Documentation Project Management (DPM) • Explain why DPM is important • Explore risks in different phases of grant production • Introduce organizational tools that help mitigate or prevent these risks: methodology, planning and editing tools
What is Documentation Project Management (DPM)? • Planning and managing resources • Identifying and minimizing risk factors • Defining standard of quality • Establishing effective writing and editing processes • Ensuring timely completion
Why is DPM important? • Engage the right people in your project at the right time • Ensure the documentation meets audience needs • Make your deadlines • Take advantage of institutional services that improve your chances of being funded (e.g., UBC HeRRO) • Maintain a calm work environment • Develop a baseline for future projects
Grant development – identify risks • LOIs/NOIs • Writing • Budgets • Letters of collaboration/support • Reviewing • Editing and Revising • Signatures • Delivery
Grant development - methodology • Write a documentation plan and/or an action plan • Write a first draft • Write a second draft • Send to research team for review • Revise and edit based on team’s feedback • Obtain institutional signatures • Deliver complete application package to funding agency
