  2. Theme 6: The Land Shapes People’s Lives Turn to page 158-159 How does geography influence the way people live? If you stood in a heavily forested area, what might you see and hear?

  4. Word study: Homonym • A homonym is a word that sounds like another work but has a different meaning and spelling. • Example: hare/hair; to/too/two

  5. Find the homonyms • Don’t be late. The bee landed on the flower. • Can you see the shore? The boat sailed on the sea.

  12. Comprehension strategy: Synthesize • To synthesize means to combine the important ideas in a text. • Turn and talk • What are the important ideas in the passage? • What would you tell a friend about what you have read?

  14. vocabulary • Horizon: The horizon is where the land and the sky appear to meet. Did you see the horizon? It was very orange this morning. –JM In art the teacher taught us what a horizon was. – AM If you look outside in the evening you can see a dark view of the horizon. - AL

  15. Vocabulary • reflection: The image that bounces back to you from a mirror is a reflection. I see my reflection in the car window. JM My reflection showed up in the mirror. LE I see my reflection in my grandma’s eyes. MK It was scary when the girl did NOT see her reflection in the mirror. Curtis
