Adapting Programs to Economic Conditions • Expanding work to Russian regions (cities with population over 1 mln); • Working with importers on alternative, low-cost POS (InterNet shops); • Intensifying work on access issues (work with Russian veterinary officials); • Promotion cheaper/alternative cuts and variety meats to match the changes in consumerhabits;

  4. Beef • Imports of US beef and bvm were slightly up in contrast with overall beef import drop of 40 percent • Consumerpreference shift to poultry, pork and variety meats. • US beef has a very good reputation on the market. Trying to win over Australian market share. • Domestic beef production does not meet domestic demand.

  6. Pork • Increased US pork quota for 2009 • Domestic production up 7% y-o-y • Problems with market access • Pork consumption not affected by H1N1 • Expected drop in consumption of 20 percent due to lower incomes • Prohibitive out-of-quota tariffs • Pork imports down 31% (US – 38%)
