  2. (Answer the following on your own piece of paper.) • Names and Nicknames • All the boys at camp have different nicknames. Stanley’s nickname allows him to be included in the group. Hector’s nickname excludes him from the group. • 1. How can nicknames make people feel included? (2-3 sentences) • 2. How can nicknames make people feel excluded? (2-3 sentences) • When is it okay to give a person a nickname? (1-2 sentences) • When is it not okay to give a person a nickname? (1-2 sentences)

  5. Friendship • One theme in the movie is friendship. The counselor says “no one cares about Hector Zeroni” but Stanley overhears and says “I do”. • Why do Stanley and Hector become friends? (1-2 sentences) • Why do you think Hector tells Stanley that his “real name isn’t Zero”? • 3. What are 3 qualities of a positive friendship that • Stanley and Hector demonstrate? • If you had been Stanley would you have taught Zero to read? Why/why not? (2-3 sentences) • If you had been Hector would you have dug Stanley’s hole? Why/why not? (2-3 sentences)

  7. Choices • Another theme of this movie is choices. • 1. If you had stolen the shoes, as Hector did, what would you have done when you heard the sirens? (2-3 sentences) • 2. Stanley’s grandpa says that “our destiny is sealed”. Do you believe you can make choices in your life or do things just happen and you can’t do anything to change a choice/consequence? Explain. (3-4 sentences) • 3. Stanley’s grandpa also says you need luck to succeed. Is luck the only way to succeed? What are some other important parts to success (hard work, dedication…)? List 3 “success” traits and explain how these can help a person to be successful. (3-4 sentences)
