The themes of Numerical methods Piroska B. Kis, Computer aided education of numerical methods
Goals – Requirements • Introduction to the numerical methods • Knowledge of the main areas of the numerical methods • Calculation, approximate calculation – using computer • Realizations of algorithms – using computer • Usage of software tools for solutions of the problems (MATLAB) Piroska B. Kis, Computer aided education of numerical methods
Teaching methods • Lectures, books, exercise book, • Practices in PC laboratory – directing by lecturer • Calculations – using computer • Realizations of algorithms – using a program package • Usage of some supplies of a program package (MATLAB) • Using websites (for example: www. library. cornell.edu/nr www.wikipedia.hu, www.wikipedia.org Piroska B. Kis, Computer aided education of numerical methods
Students’ attitudes toward the computer aided education • Each student works by oneself (in PC laboratory –lecturer-help) • Rapid response about the work • The result of the works is visible / „measurable”, (Usage of less or more help) each student is successful • The course is rather difficult, but each student gets a real sense of achievement, therefore the students receive/accept the course favourably Piroska B. Kis, Computer aided education of numerical methods
Summing up • Changing of teaching methods • +Usage of the facilities of the computer program packages / software tools • +Usage of electronic libraries Piroska B. Kis, Computer aided education of numerical methods
