  4. 1. His opportunities:

  5. a. He was from the tribe of Judah, John 6:71.“Iscariot” or man of Kerioth, tells us he was part of the tribe of Judah, Josh 15:25.

  6. b. Judas was called by Jesus Christ, Mat 10:4; Mark 3:19; Luke 6:16.

  7. c. He was numbered as one of the twelve, Mat 10:4.

  8. d. He was the treasurer, John 12:6; 13:29.

  9. e. He was also present at the Last Supper, John 13:26.

  10. It seems he was present at all of the discourses of our Lord between the time of his call and the time of the Last Supper.

  11. 2. His sowing:

  12. a. He allowed himself to fall under demonic influence, John 13:2.

  13. b. He protested the honoring of the Lord with perfume, John 12:3-9.

  14. c. He was covetous, John 12:4-6.

  15. d. He was a thief, John 12:6.

  16. e. He bargained to betray the Lord Jesus Christ, Mark 14:10-11.

  17. f. He was bribed to become a traitor, Mat 26:14-16.

  18. g. He opened his heart to evil resulting in Satan's possession, Luke 22:3; John 13:27.

  19. Judas repaid our Lord's previous gracious honor by kissing Him on the cheek, identify Him as a criminal, Mat 26:14, 47-50, Mark 14:43-45; Luke 22:47-48. Jesus replied by calling him “friend”, Mat 26:50.

  20. 3. His reaping:

  21. a. Because of his betrayal, his name is always listed last among the apostles.

  22. b. He was demonically influenced and possessed. Luke 22:3; John 13:2; 27.

  23. c. Our Lord knew he was of the devil and would betray Him, John 6:64, 70-71.

  24. d. He willfully betrayed the Lord, Mat 26:20-25; John 13:26-30.

  25. e. He had remorse for his actions yet did not come to repentant salvation, Mat 27:3-5.

  26. 1) Judas was conscience stricken, he felt sorry for what he had done.

  27. 2) He confessed his sin when returning the silver. "I have betrayed innocent blood".

  28. 3) He was sincere in his sorrow for what he had done.

  29. 4) He made restitution and gave back the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders.

  30. 5) Confession of sin(s) is for the believer only. Repentance, confessing sins and doing good works does not save anyone.

  31. Salvation is found only one way; through faith in the Savior, Eph 2:8-9.

  32. f. He committed suicide due to his remorse, Mat 27:5.

  33. g. His failed attempt resulted in crashing down onto a rock pile, Acts 1:16-20.

  34. h. He became a type of the antichrist, John 17:12 cf. 2 Thes 2:3

  35. John 17:12, “While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished (were destroyed) but the son of perdition (destruction), so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.”

  36. 2 Thes 2:3, “Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the Rapture comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition (destruction).”

  37. i. He was assigned “to his own place”; Hades, Acts 1:25 cf. Mat 26:24.
