The Library Dividend What is it? • The Library Dividend is a study the economic and social value of public libraries • State Library of Queensland commissioned SGS Economics & Planning to complete the study • SGS used cost benefit analysis, economic impact analysis and qualitative insights by surveying 6,000 library users and non-users • Seven case study library services, covering a representative range of local governments, provided extensive data
What did the study find? • Nearly half of all Queenslanders are public library members • Both library users and non-users value the services libraries offer – lifelong learning, literacy, internet access, supporting local culture and the arts • Queensland libraries return $2.30 worth of community value for every dollar invested
