  16. Judicial Branch • NC has three levels of courts • Supreme – Highest court in the state. Appellate jurisdiction. • Appeals – Hears cases appealed from lower courts. Appellate jurisdiction. • District/Superior – Lowest level courts with original jurisdiction. District courts hear misdemeanor and civil cases involving less than $10,000. Superior courts hear felony cases and civil cases involving more than $10,000.
