Lab Report • In college, labs must be presented in a well formatted report. • This is a college level course, so I will expect a college level lab report. • A lab report consists of several separate sections.
Heading and Objective Heading - All lab reports should include a lab title. Objective – The objective of lab should be stated in your own words. Do not copy from the lab worksheet.
Method/Setup The Method/Setup section of your lab should be clear and detailed. Someone should be able to repeat the experiment by reading only your report. Be sure to include: • A brief description of what was done to accomplish the objective. • All equipment used • A sketch of the experimental set-up
Data Include: • Raw data sheets • Ruler drawn or computer generated charts • Include all units
Graphs • Include all graphs when appropriate. • Ruler drawn or computer generated. • Correctly labeled axes, completed title, best fit line
Calculations/Results How did you get from the data to the results? Calculations: • Include all equations used • A sample of each type of calculation with units • Usually easier to write by hand Results: • Include results on a ruler drawn or computer generated chart.
Conclusion/Discussion of Results The most important part of the report. A discussion and analysis of your data. • Discuss the results and cite evidence to show you accomplished your objective. • Did your results match the theoretical value? • What sources of error or uncertainty affected your results? • How did these sources affect the results? • How can you reduce or account for these sources in the future?
