Archiving GIS • Held remotely from central filing system • Is made up of diverse layers • Which are frequently updated • Layers originate from different organisations • Mostly run on commercial software
TNA’s GIS Project • Establish extent nature and intricacies of the use of GI systems in Central Government • Identify the records being created • Identify any special issues relating to their public record status • Raise awareness in GIS community of their responsibilities under Public Records Act
