  1. PRE-LAB: Measuring substances 1. There will be 3-4 members in each group. 2. Each person will measure one (1) substance in preparation for the lab. Using a digital balance, measure the following substances: Carefully seal and label the measured substances in appropriate containers. Place all materials in a tray.

  2. 1Heat 125 ml water. Maintain temperature at 50-55o C. 2-4 Add: a. 10g wheat germ b. 2g meat tenderizer c. 5 g baking soda (stir 3-4 min) (stir 1 min) (stir 1 min) 5 Add 1 tblsp of dish soap. 7 Pour cooled liquid into 4 test tubes Each test tube 1/3 full stir 2 min Avoid bubbles 8 Slowly add ethanol using dropper 6 Take out beaker and let it cool down for 10-15 min 5ml (forms a layer 1 inch thick) 9 Extract floating DNA Clean your station
