  4. Insurance Athletes should be covered by a basic level of health, accident and life insurance that guarantees adequate treatment and support in case of injury or sickness.

  5. Pension The unique nature of the athletic career should be recognized by public authorities and pension structures should be established to, at least, support athletes for a certain time period after their athletic career is over and their next career begins.

  6. Minimum living wage All athletes should be guaranteed a minimum living wage for participating in sporting competitions or events that are “economic activities”

  7. Safety in the workplace Venues and working conditions must meet minimum safety standards which will be set with adequate athlete input and participation

  8. Right to work When an event or competition can be defined as an economic activity an athlete’s right to work should be respected

  9. Education Due to the short nature of an athletic career, athletes need a guaranteed right to be able to pursue an education

  10. Image rights Athletes have the right to control their own image.

  11. Reasonable Schedule Competition schedules must be organized so as to provide for proper rest and recuperation.

  14. Recognition of basic labor rights Athletes participating in competitions or events that can be defined as economic activities should be protected by European labor law

  16. Equal treatment under tax laws Domestic and “foreign” athletes should be treated the same under domestic tax laws

  17. Standard for medical care All athletes have the right to a standard of medical care that reflects the high risk nature of sports

  18. “Protection” of Local Players

  19. Guaranteed Labor Contracts Due to the high risk nature of sport and the short length of athletes professional careers, labor contracts with and ending date should be guaranteed for their full amount and secured, if necessary, by an insurance policy paid for by the employer organization

  20. Dispute resolution Athletes should be represented on all disciplinary boards or bodies
