Heart Pathology Chapter 11
Arrhythmia • Any abnormal rhythm of the heart • Atrioventricular-impulses are not through the Av node to the bundle of His • Causes the ventricles to contract slower than the atria • Flutter- rapid contractions of the atria or ventricles • Fibrillation- rapid random contractions
Congenital Heart Disease • Any abnormalities present at birth • Coarctation of the Aorta (CoA)- constriction of the aorta • Patent Ductus (PDA)-a duct between the aorta and pulmonary artery • Septal Defects- hole in the septum between the ventricles
Tetralogy of Fallot- four defects together • Pulmonary artery stenosis • Ventricular septal defect • Aorta shift to the right • Hypertrophy of the right ventricle- smaller than it should be
Congestive Heart Failure • Blood accumulates in the lungs- left side failure pulmonary edema • Caused by hypertension and coronary heart disease • Treatments- • ACE and beta-blockers • Left Ventricular assist device (LVAD)
Coronary Artery DiseaseCAD • Atherosclerosis- fatty deposits in heart artries
